THE UPTOWN BATH

The clawfoot tub, in this 19th century Victorian home, while charming, took up a lot of room. The enamel was worn and the old plumbing pipes were leaking. The homeowners wanted a shower, more storage, and a spacious feel within the small footprint.

A corner shower with a radial curb maximizes space. To incorporate the existing window into the shower design glass blocks, built into the existing window opening, add light, while the Cabria window sill and window surround make a waterproof barrier. A 90 degree, radial, ceiling-mounted track for the shower curtain keeps the space open, and the incorporated lighting in the medicine cabinet provides both ambient and task light.

The quarter Sewn white oak cabinetry matches the existing millwork in the home, while grey, marble, hex tile and hardware create a cohesive, updated look. The Cambria curb top, large format white subway wall tile, and Cambria shampoo shelves create a modern spa-like bathroom while maintaining turn-of-the-century elements.
