THE SARATOGA KITCHEN
Photography by Spacecrafting Photography
This darling 1930 bungalow had a dark, dated kitchen that felt out of character to the architecture of the home and the mid-century style that our clients loved. The small space lacked useful storage, adequate ventilation, and a connection to the backyard. The goal? A fashion-forward yet minimalist kitchen designed to support daily from-scratch cooking, indoor/outdoor entertaining and the occasional mixology session.
With the addition of a new sliding patio door, there is now a strong visual connection to the backyard and the kitchen is filled with natural light. The new layout of the space embraces what avid cooks love about a galley kitchen -- The efficiency! Improvements to the cabinetry design and a reduction in the refrigerator size not only allowed for more counter space but also created opportunity to incorporate solutions for trash, recycling and a hidden microwave. Thoughtful material selections like rift-sawn white oak cabinetry, natural quartzite countertops, reflective chrome finishes, a retro color palette, and warm rattan details now tell a story of where the home's Craftsman roots meet bold mid-century expression.
